Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix 2012 Circuit

There is only one international circuit in Bahrain called Bahrain International Circuit (as you may have guessed), and this circuit is where the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix 2012 will be held.

Bahrain International circuit has 5.412 kilometer (3.363 miles) length with about 100,000 capacity. Luckily for journalists, they don’t need to cramp with the spectators to be able to write a report about the race because a special media center venue with about 500 seats are available, dedicated to the media guys. The construction of the circuit began on 2002 with the total cost of US$150 million. Just like China and Sepang International Circuit, Hermann Tilke was the man behind the construction of Bahrain International Circuit.

The unique points of the circuit is that it is located in the middle of a desert completed with an oasis. Although it is surrounded by a desert, there’s no worry that sand blow will disrupt the race since the organizers put all of their efforts to keep the sand away from the track. Is it possible? Yes it is, by spraying an adhesive to the sand outside the track.

The first racing event held in the circuit is Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix in 2004. As a matter of fact, Bahrain International Circuit had not finished yet at that time, and the regulators were about to cancel Formula One event. Finally, a great man in Formula 1, Bernie Eccletone decided that the circuit is good enough to handle the race.

Spanish Formula One Grand Prix Circuit

Circuit de Catalunya, also called Circuit de Barcelona, will handle Spanish Formula One Grand Prix 2012. The circuit is rather short, only 4.655 kilometers (2892 miles), compared to some other international circuits whose length exceeding 5 kilometers. It doesn’t have many turns, so the racers have limited chance to overtake. As a result, the race tend to be very intense in every turn since most racers try their best to overtake the opponents on that spot.

The construction of Circuit de Catalunya finished in 1991; at the same year, the first Spanish F1 Grand Prix was held. Since the circuit has been holding the Formula 1 Grand Prix for so many times, some people said that the track is no longer attractive for the racers. It is indeed a wrong assumption because there are some factors in the circuit that would turn the race to be more challenging and unpredictable.

As an illustration, certain parts of the track are very smooth while some others are abrasive and bumpy so that racers must come up with a quick decision about the right time to speed up or slow down.  Besides, the wind can suddenly change its direction on the track that it is hard for all participants to optimize or accelerate their speed in the same way as what they did during practice and qualifying sections.

The next Grand Prix in Circuit de Catalunya will be the 22nd Spanish Formula One Grand Prix. Being the place where the F1 Grand Prix was held for so many times, Circuit de Catalunya has a lot of moments from spectacular races. One memorable moment was the great duel between Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell in 1991. For the next race, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, and many more will be the ones to impress spectators in Circuit de Catalunya.

China Formula One 2012 Circuit
Where is China Formula One Grand Prix held?
Since the year of 2004, China Formula One Grand Prix has been held in Shanghai International Circuit. The circuit was used to be a swampland before transformed into a lengthy international circuit. It has 5.451 kilometers (3.387 miles) length with 29.000 seats on the main grandstand offering a spectacular view of 80% of the circuit. The overall capacity of Shanghai International Circuit is about 200.000 seats.

The construction of Shanghai International Circuit finished in 18 months with US$450 million cost. The architects, Herman Tilke and Peter Wahl, inserted some Chinese characteristics to build the circuit; for example, the design of the team buildings are similar to the famous Yuyan-Garden in Shanghai. One Chinese character, ‘Shang’ which means ‘above’ inspired the architects to build the circuit. Not only the Formula One, Shanghai International Circuit also handles some other international races such as A1 Grand Prix and V8 Supercar Championship.

Shanghai International  Circuit has a long straight track followed by a hairpin turn. Most F1 racers can reach the speed of more than 200 kilometers per hour in its long straight track, but then they need to slow down to handle the hairpin left turn before encounter some right and left twists. Michael Schumacher keeps the lap record of 1:32.238 in the first China Formula One Grand Prix in 2004.

The total area of the circuit consisting of the Main Grandstand, Sub-Grandstands, Restaurant, Team Houses, etc. is about 150,000 square meters. The circuit is located Jiadiang District of Shanghai, about 30 kilometers from the downtown and 20 kilometers the Shanghai Hongqiao airport. Heading to Shanghai International Circuit is a piece of cake because the circuit is surrounded by three highways – Outer Loop Highway, Jia Jin Highway, and Hu Jia Liu Highway.

Shanghai International Circuit once handled about 260.000 spectators in the first Formula One Grand Prix held in the circuit. Due to the overcrowded situation, Shanghai International Circuit has been abandoned by the MotoGP race since the year of 2009. 2008 was the only year when MotoGP race held in the circuit.
